Seattle Seahawks Running Back Rashaad Penny was “seriously” injured during his team’s 39-32 loss against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll didn’t offer any specifics regarding Penny’s injury, but he did indicate that he would miss a significant amount of time.
“I don’t want to make any statements because I don’t really know exactly yet until they get all the MRIs and stuff, but he’s got a bad ankle [injury],” Carroll said.
“He’s in trouble getting back.”
Rashaad Penny has been a major contributor for the Seahawks over the last two seasons. He led all rushers during the last five weeks of the season with 671 yards. This season, he has been relatively quiet, but he did break out for 151 yards and two touchdowns in week four. This week, he ran for 54 yards on eight carries before being knocked out of the game.
In Penny’s absence, Kenneth Walker III will take over his duties. The rookie running back ran for 88 yards and one touchdown on eight carries against New Orleans. Next week, Walker III and the Seahawks will face a stiff test as they take on the Arizona Cardinals, who currently boast a top-ten rushing defense through five weeks.
#Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny suffered a fractured tibia, sources say, and he’ll have tests tomorrow to determine associated damage to see if surgery is necessary. As of now, it’s likely. Heart-breaking.
