U.S. Representative George Santos has reportedly introduced several new pieces of legislation, including The Minaj Act. According to Semafor Political Reporter Kadia Goba, the act aims to establish “a development period for new vaccines in order to generate public confidence.”
Onika “Nicki Minaj” Maraj-Petty was not shy about sharing her thoughts regarding COVID-19 vaccines in September 2021. On September 13, 2021, Metropolitan Museum of Art held its annual gala in Minaj’s hometown of New York, New York. As the event kicked off, several media outlets noted that the chart-topping star was in attendance. Concurrently, several reports suggested that all Met Gala attendees were required to show proof of vaccination before entering the venue. In the midst of speculation regarding her absence, the multi-talented entertainer took to Twitter to share her thoughts regarding COVID-19 vaccinations.
“They want you to get vaccinated for the Met. if I get vaccinated it won’t for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe,” Minaj tweeted.
“Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one.”
Nicki Minaj also shared a series of tweets regarding a family who she claims became impotent after receiving the vaccine.
“My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine cuz his friend got it & became impotent. His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied,” she wrote.
Minaj’s tweets on September 13, 2021 drew backlash from several prominent figures in the public health sector and national news space.
“Nothing like watching someone speak confidently about something they know nothing about,” the Philadelphia Health Department tweeted.
“You have 22 million followers on Twitter. For you to use your platform to encourage our community to not protect themselves and save their lives, by God sister, you can do better than that,” Joy Reid said.
Before logging off on September 13, 2021, the New York native said that she would get vaccinated in order to tour outside of the U.S.
“A lot of countries won’t let ppl work w/o the vaccine. I’d def recommend they get the vaccine. They have to feed their families. I’m sure I’ll b vaccinated as well cuz I have to go on tour, etc,” she tweeted.
