Is Sabrina Carpenter ready for her close-up?
The chart-topping pop star is reportedly “being sought for a role” in a forthcoming film adaptation of the iconic musical Mamma Mia! Details regarding the specific role or when the film may end up in theaters are being kept under wraps for the time being.
Carpenter is no stranger to the big screen. She’s starred in The Hate U Give with Amandla Stenberg and Horns with Daniel Radcliffe. In addition, she’s appeared in Girl Meets World, Sofia the First, Law & Order, Phineas and Ferb and Orange Is The New Black.
While Sabrina Carpenter hasn’t had a regular role in a series or film since 2022, she has expressed an interest in returning to acting. In a 2024 profile of Carpenter, Variety‘s Thania Garcia wrote, “Although Carpenter’s music focus has meant an ‘unwarranted break’ from acting, she’s always looking at scripts in the hopes of securing a spot in a musical or an original film, although she says ‘a lot of them sound like five other already released movies.’ She’s waiting for one that feels right.”
Only time will tell if Mamma Mia! is the project that will “feel right” for Carpenter. In the meantime, she’ll continue to ride the wave of the deluxe edition of Short n’ Sweet, released in February.
