The Anti-Defamation League recorded a record-high distribution of white supremacist propaganda last year. In 2022, the ADL recorded 6,751 incidents of propaganda activity, a 38% jump from the previous year. According to the group’s report, Patriot Front, Goyim Defense League and White Lives Matter were responsible for more than 90% of the activity exhibited in the last year.
“There’s no question that white supremacists and antisemites are trying to terrorize and harass Americans and have significantly stepped up their use of propaganda as a tactic to make their presence known in communities nationwide,” ADL President Jonathan Greenblatt said.
The ADL’s most recent report echoes many of the sentiments expressed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation within the last three years. In 2020, FBI Director Christopher Wray said racially motivated extremism is “on the same footing in terms of our national threat banding as ISIS and homegrown violent extremism.”
“Racially motivated violent extremism, specifically of the sort that advocates for the superiority of the white race, is a persistent, evolving threat,” Wray stated.
“It’s the biggest chunk of our racially motivated violent extremism cases for sure. And racially motivated violent extremism is the biggest chunk of our domestic terrorism portfolio.”
