
Ryan Gosling has signed on to star in the film adaptation of Project Hail Mary from The Martian‘s Andy Weir. The film’s plot hasn’t been revealed, but the film is expected to center around an astronaut tasked with saving the world.
Moving forward, MGM is interested in acquiring the film. No other crew or casting announcements have been made.
This is the third placement for Weir’s novels. His other novels, Cheshire Crossing and Artemis, are also in the works for film adaptations.
Prior to this film, Gosling took on a similar role. Most recently, he played Neil Armstrong in First Man. He earned a Critics Association nomination for Best Actor for his performance.
The novel, Project Hail Mary, is set to be released in 2021. There is no word on when the film will be released.
