On Monday, January 15, 2024, RuPaul’s Drag Race won the Outstanding Reality Competition Program at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards at Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California.
The show has received 63 nominations at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards during its 15-year history. Tonight, it adds a third Primetime Emmy Award to its trophy shelf this year.
Winning the Outstanding Reality Competition Program category at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards is no small feat. Past award recipients include The Amazing Race, The Voice, Top Chef and RuPaul’s Drag Race among others. This year, the Outstanding Reality Competition Program category was as competitive as it has ever been. The Voice, Top Chef, RuPaul’s Drag Race and The Amazing Race have won this award 18 times combined. While Survivor has never won this award in its 23-year history, it has earned seven nominations over two decades.
Outstanding Reality Competition Program will likely remain a competitive category for years to come. Not only will this year’s nominees remain in contention, but newer shows like The Traitors, The Circle and Squid Game: The Challenge continue to gain traction and could enter the mix.
