Gay averaged 13.7 points per game while also chipping in 6.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. This past season was the most efficient season Gay has put together in his 13-year career, shooting 50.4% from the field and 40.2% from 3.
Gay was easily the biggest free agent the Spurs had on the roster after signing a one-year, $10 million deal the previous season and wanted to get the deal done early in free agency.
The San Antonio forward split time between the small and power forward positions for the Spurs. Gay has developed a well-rounded game under coach Gregg Popovich which may have helped extend his career. Popovich has been great at developing roles for secondary and third options for his players and this is just another example making Rudy Gay into a more efficient player.
This made a lot of sense for Gay to come back to San Antonio to continue his career. The Spurs combo forward will look to continue on the success he has established in San Antonio.
