
Roy Wood Jr. has been selected to host the 2023 African-American Film Critics Association Awards. The 14th annual event will take place on March 1, 2023 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
“AAFCA is excited to have the multi-talented Roy Wood Jr. host the 14th edition of the AAFCA Awards,” AAFCA CEO Gil Robertson said.
“Roy is one of the most electrifying comedic voices in our business. He’s funny, insightful and irreverent and we’re looking forward to a fabulous evening of fun and celebration.”
This is far from Wood Jr.’s first hosting gig. He was recently tapped to host this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C. He is also rumored to be on the short list of stars Comedy Central is considering to take over The Daily Show following the sudden departure of Trevor Noah.
“I’m honored to host the AAFCA Awards where we can come together and celebrate the incredible films and performances that have inspired and uplifted our community,” Wood Jr. said.
At the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, Wood Jr. will be joined by a collection of Hollywood stars. Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Woman King is expected to take home “Best Picture” while Angela Bassett is expected to take home “Best Supporting Actress” for her performance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Also, Brian Tyree Henry and Jeremy Pope will be recognized for their performances in Causeway and The Inspection.
