It is no secret that major studios love a good sequel or reboot. In the past few years, Coming 2 America, House Party and White Men Can’t Jump have all hit theaters and streaming sites. While some have underperformed with fans and critics, others like Peacock’s Bel-Air and Creed have done pretty well. If the opportunity presents itself, Bridesmaids star Rose Byrne hopes that her 2011 hit movie could fall in love with the latter than the former. During a recent interview with People, she expressed an interest in bringing Bridesmaids back for a sequel in the future.
“If all the girls were in, I absolutely would,” Byrne said when asked if she’d return for a sequel.
“It’s a hard act to follow because the first film was so great…It was so magical and so beloved.”
Released in 2011, Bridesmaids was a success at the box office and with fans. Starring Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig, the film generated more than $300 million against a $32.6 million budget. On average, critics gave the film a grade of 7.5 out of 10 with 89% offering a generally favorable review.
“Bridesmaids is being touted as a female version of The Hangover. That’s an unfair bar to set, given how easily these ladies sail over it,” Alynda Wheat of People wrote in 2014.
Through the success of the film Byrne and the cast built a strong bond. Whether it’s Bridesmaids II or another film, she appears to be all in to work with her former co-stars again.
“I miss them all,” Byrne said.
“I saw Kristen Wiig recently. It was so lovely to see her. I hadn’t seen her for so long, and they’ve all got such a special place in my heart.”
