Once again, do not underestimate the powers of social media.
By now, you’ve seen the above image in some capacity. Making major rounds on Twitter and fit with a caption that set Rihanna as a woman who scams rich White men, while Lupita is Rih’s best friend and expert computer hacker, it all mixed for a perfect movie plot.
Well, today brings about some great news as the power of Twitter has once again proved itself. Per EW, Netflix is the lucky company who has landed everything needed to bring Rihanna and Lupita’s fictional scammer lives to life.
After dramatic negotiation session at the Cannes Film Festival, Netflix has nabbed a film project pairing Grammy winner Rihanna with Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, in a concept that began as a Twitter sensation. Ava DuVernay (Selma) will direct, and Issa Rae (Insecure) is in talks to write the screenplay.
With Twitter users also tapping Selma‘s director, Ava DuVernay & the Insecure creator, Issa Rae, to also put their talents to use in the creative process of the film, these women could very well be apart of what is shaping up to be something big.
Having no official word from Rihanna and Lupita, it’s only right that the ladies sign on to give the people exactly what we want!
Most importantly, thank you, Twitter!
