The Golden State Warriors are probably still shell-shocked about the events of last nights game. The team with the best NBA record lost in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, despite all-star Forward Draymond Green’s best efforts. Green punched in 22 points, off 5 3-pointers in the first half on Sunday, and finished off with 32 points, 15 rebounds and 9 assists, but came up just short of his 2nd NBA title.
His efforts came up short, and he put the blame on himself in the press conference after, showing how hungry he really is for an NBA championship. Although he fell short of that, he does have a chance to still win another championship, a gold medal in the olympics. Many players including his MVP teammate, Stephen Curry, have withdrawn from this summer’s Rio Olympics because of the concerns over the growing Zika Virus epidemic there. According to ESPN’s Marc J. Spears, Green will still be heading to Brazil this summer:
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green recently accepted an invitation to play for USA Basketball at the 2016 Rio Olympics, a source told The Undefeated on Monday.
Green has never played for USA Basketball’s national team but previously has played on the 2015 USA Showcase and on Team USA’s 2011 World University Games squad. He was selected as a finalist for the United States’ 2016 Rio Olympics team Jan. 18.
If the speculation’s are right, and Draymond Green is going this summer, he is not going to be joining a lot of the players that made it to the final list. Chris Paul, Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook and James Harden for Team USA have all withdrawn all citing their own reasons, and who knows who may join them. DeMarcus Cousins has supposedly been guaranteed a spot, but with the controversy surrounding the 2016 Rio Olympics, anything can happen. All we know for sure is that this Team USA squad might have more of a challenge in the Olympics then they usually do.
