Patience is a virtue. It’s a saying as old as time, but it’s easier said than implemented in one’s day-to-day lifestyle. However, those who are able to practice being patient for their blessings often come out on top in long run. After years of working his way through the ups and downs that exist for young Black men in Long Beach, Ray Vaughn inked a deal with Top Dawg Entertainment. Less than a year later, a young lady by the name of London Monét saw her years of hard work pay off when she had the opportunity to perform alongside Beyoncé at the 94th Academy Awards. This week, the two came together to put release the triumphant anthem, “Plot Twist.”
“In my all traveling pictures, a private jet is what I stand by,” the TDE artist raps.
“A couple of years ago, all of the flights I took were on standby. I don’t give a f*ck about their top fives. I’m a top pick. Whoever is gatekeeping is f*cking up with their locksmith.”
Produced by Vinylz, “Plot Twist” is a soulful track that highlights how Ray Vaughn’s life has changed in a matter of a few years. Punctuating the message put forth in the music, the three-minute visual brings together archived footage of the rising star as he celebrates the finer things in life with his friends, family and loved ones. Nearly two years into his time with TDE, Ray Vaughn is on top of the world and has no plans of slowing down.
“Plot Twist” serves as the follow-up to “Sandcastles” with Ab-Soul. Not far removed from Ab-Soul’s Herbet and SZA’s SOS, it appears that TDE has shifted its focus towards its two newest acts, Doechii and Ray Vaughn.
