Ray Allen is highly sought after right now, by mainly one team. The Cleveland Cavaliers. According to reports a few days ago, Allen was headed to Cleveland then not headed to Cleveland and now according to one NBA general manager, Allen might wait it out.
Of course, the GM is Ray Allen’s former GM in Boston, Danny Ainge.
“Ray can really help them, but I anticipate that Ray will wait and see the landscape of the NBA,” Ainge said during his weekly call-in to 98.5 the Sports Hub. “I just think he might wait and see how everybody’s clicking. There’s a handful of teams that would love to have Ray on their team right now that are trying to win a championship.”
Now a few possible contenders have expressed major interest in Allen. Besides Cleveland, Chicago, Oklahoma City, San Antonio and Washington, all have interest in the greatest three-point shooter of all time.
This actually makes sense and one would tend to agree with Danny Ainge. Besides the fact that Ainge is one of the best talent assessors in the NBA, he knows how an aging NBA body works. Allen would be hands down wasting his time right now with any team he signs with. No team in their right mind would have Allen play all 82 games, not even 60 at this stage of his career.
Allen is smart though, and he knows that. Ray would fit with ANY team just due to his great leadership, experience and how refined his craft is, his three-point shooting. The best to ever do it from three-point range will without a doubt have his phone ring off the hook. This choice right now though may be what’s best for Allen though. Avoiding any potential injury or let-down from a team, from a record standpoint, may work out best for Allen. Sorry Cleveland fans, but you might have to wait a little longer.
