Raptors GM Insists He Won’t Trade Kyle Lowry
Trade rumors swirled around Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry before he ultimately re-signed with Toronto this summer. He was reportedly courted by several teams including the Lakers and the Heat, who were rumored to offer a trade package for Lowry, who also met with the Houston Rockets as a free agent earlier in the summer.
Now that Lowry is inked with Toronto for another four years, Raptors GM Masai Ujiri is adamant about his thoughts on potentially trading him, per Mike Ganter of the Toronto Sun:
Masai Ujiri walks up to a gaggle of reporters and upon hearing the topic of the day is Kyle Lowry immediately states “I’m not trading him.”
The Raptors wouldn’t be able to trade Lowry until January 15, but Ujiri is openly opposed to that possibility. Understandably so – Lowry along with DeMar DeRozan make up the Raptors’ core and foundation. They started their notable campaign by earning a top-3 seeding in the Eastern Conference last season and making the playoffs.
There might be some lucrative deals offered to Ujiri by teams in dire need of a point guard at that time, but his endorsement comes across sound and forthright. The Raptors are invested in their future.
