HBO’s Insecure has given a larger platform to a number of talented, rising stars in the world of Hollywood. Since debuting in the role of Lawrence, Jay Ellis has gone on to appear in films like Top Gun: Maverick and Escape Room. In addition, Y’Lan Noel starred in The First Purge and Natasha Rothwell has signed on to create more content with HBO. Most notably, Issa Rae has ushered in Insecure as her first series on premium cable and now she’s creating more series with HBO for the future. Behind all of this, Prentice Penny has served as a producer for Insecure and helped push the show and its cast further into the limelight.
Prentice Penny has signed a new two year deal with HBO. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, “Under the new two-year pact, the Insecure showrunner will develop, write, produce and direct both comedy and drama TV projects for the cable network.” The details of the deal were not all revealed, but the deal is speculated to live in the eight figure range.
In addition to his deal with HBO, Penny is also working on a film called Uncorked with Netflix. Insecure is set to return later this year on HBO.
