Former mixed martial artist Phil Baroni has been arrested in Nayarit, Mexico and charged with the murder of his girlfriend. The former mixed martial artist is reportedly in custody and set to appear in court on January 9, 2023.
Initial reporting from Tribuna de la Bahia presents conflicting accounts of what led to the death of Baroni’s former girlfriend. Baroni reportedly claims his girlfriend told him that she had cheated. In response, he allegedly threw her into the shower and she slipped and hit her head. Shortly thereafter, the former mixed martial artist claims that he found her dead in the shower. In contrast, police say “they found her naked in bed covered with a sheet with multiple evidence of being struck, bruising in her face and no vitals.” Shortly thereafter, police say Baroni called for help.
Baroni is known to the public as a mixed martial artist with more than two decades of experience in the UFC, Bellator, Strikeforce, ONE FC and PRIDE. During his career, he amassed a record of 15-18-0. He cut ties with the UFC in 2011 and last fought under the Rebel FC banner in 2019.
Baroni nor his attorney have issued a statement regarding the charges levied against him.
