Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Meisha Tate is looking ahead to greener pastures in 2022. According to a report from ESPN, Tate will drop down to flyweight for her upcoming match against Lauren Murphy on May 14.
Tate has spent her entire career at bantamweight, earning a record of 19 wins and eight losses. Along the way, she’s won the FCF Bantamweight Championship, Strikeforce Bantamweight Championship and UFC Bantamweight Championship.
In 2016, Tate stepped away from the sport only to return in 2021. She picked up a win in July before losing a unanimous decision to Ketlen Vieira in November.
Tate’s opponent, Lauren Murphy, is a former Invicta FC Bantamweight Champion with a record of 15 wins and five losses. Murphy was on a five match winning streak before she lost to UFC Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko in September.
Details regarding the venue or main event for the Murphy-Tate match have not been determined as of yet.
