The Doctor is in y’all.
According to Deadline, Peter Capaldi has joined James Gunn’s upcoming reboot of The Suicide Squad. SNL cast member Pete Davidson is also reportedly being eyed for a cameo in the film. But, nothing’s been announced on that front.
Recently, Taika Waititi was announced to be joining the film in an undisclosed role. Before that, Ant-Man‘s David Dastmalcian was cast as Polka Dot Man, of all people. Idris Elba was also cast to replace Will Smith, however, it was previously reported that Deadshot, Smith’s original character, was written out of the film for Elba to play an entirely different role.
Gunn was handed the keys to the film after his unwarranted firing from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn has since been reinstated as director on the film but remained committed to finishing The Suicide Squad first. Gunn wrote the script for the film, which has been described as a “total reboot.”
Capaldi, Waititi, Elba, and Dastmalcian are set to star alongside fellow newcomers Nathan Fillion, Daniela Melchior, Flula Borg, and Steve Agee. Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman are returning from that 2016 trainwreck.
The Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 6th, 2021.
