The wheels of change are turning for several late-night show formats, but they aren’t moving quite fast enough. That’s where Sam Jay comes in. Working with HBO, Jay has introduced her new show, Pause, that not only challenges its viewers, but it also challenges the notion of what a late-night show can or should be. From having drinks with the Lucas Brothers to sending hoteps to space, Jay is taking the format of late-night talk shows and turning it on its head.
As the Pause rollout continues, HBO has unveiled the official trailer for the new show. Throughout the two-minute teaser, Jay is having conversations with friends over drinks, traveling out to gun ranges and playing miniature golf. All the while she is discussing race, gender, sexuality, politics and much more.
