Paul George Says He Wants To Play More Physical
The Indiana Pacers’ All-Star wing player Paul George is setting an offseason goal to embrace a more physical style, as he told the Indianapolis Star,
I plan on being a lot more physical this year. I really plan taking contact and wanting to get contact and finishing through contact. That’s the next step for me.
George says he plans on spending more time in the post, and apparently took heed to his GM Larry Bird’s post-Conference Finals remarks about wanting George to do more operating out of the post. George added,
I’ve been spending a lot of time there. A lot of it is just working on footwork stuff and a lot of stuff just off the catch.
He also mentions a desire to put on some weight as he looks to become more of a physical presence. George is listed at 6-9, 220 and posted up 4.9 percent of the time on offensive plays.
This is certainly the right idea for the 24-year-old, who has extreme promise on both ends of the floor. It’s a challenge to do the right bulking up while keeping somewhat of a lean frame like George’s, which keeps him quick and elusive, but if he gets himself comfortable with his offense in the post it gives him an added advantage. He will benefit defensively as well. This is a good sign for Paul George’s regimen as he continues to progress into one of the true stars of the league.
