Mahershala Ali is one of the most pleasant surprises and stories in Hollywood. He tried everything. From basketball to rapping to acting, Mahershala Ali Gilmore has done it all. Which makes it that much sweeter that we see the rise of Ali and we’re here to enjoy the ride. The 2-time Oscar Winner has signed on to join Entertainment One’s new Sci-Fi Film ‘Sovereign’.
Three-time BAFTA TV Award-winner Marc Munden will direct from a screenplay by A Quiet Place writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods — the details of which are being kept under wraps. An original draft of the script was written by Greg Weidman and Geoff Tock, with revisions by Jack Thorne.
“We have long loved this project and have been patiently waiting until we found the right leading actor, which we no doubt have found in the incredibly talented Mahershala Ali,” Nick Meyer, eOne’s president of film, said Wednesday in announcing the project.
Entertainment One and 21 Laps will co-produce this film. If you recall, 21 laps is the company that brought us ‘Arrival’ and Netflix’ ‘Stranger Things’. This is making out to be quite the movie, but with details about the script being kept under wraps, there’s little else to be excited about.
