The biggest night in Hollywood has concluded and it brought a few surprises, heartfelt moments and exciting performances. Most notably, Regina King took home her first Academy Award, Spike Lee won for “Best Adapted Screenplay” and Green Book took home the award for “Best Picture”. In addition, Jennifer Hudson, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper all delivered incredible musical performances. However, there was something missing from last night’s Oscars.
As many of us know, the 91st Academy Awards were held without a host for the first time in some years. Luckily, the audience seemed to enjoy the show just fine. In fact, this year’s television ratings for the 91st Academy Awards went up from last year. This year, nearly 30 million viewers tuned in to see Michael B. Jordan, Spike Lee, Rami Malek and many more big names in Hollywood. As reported by Variety, “The awards show, which went without a host this year, drew a 20.6 rating in metered market households, up approximately 6% from the 18.9 last year’s telecast drew.” Who knows? Maybe this year’s success will spark a trend in years to come.
