Offset may be looking to embark on a solo career, but it appears that he has a few matters in his past that still needed to be sorted out. TMZ has reported that the Grammy-nominated star has sued Quality Control Records. As far back as January 2021, the outlet claims that he negotiated a solo deal and “paid handsomely” for his artist rights, but the label is not honoring the agreement as he begins his solo venture.
Offset has been separated from his former group members, Takeoff and Quavo, and Quality Control Records for some time now. Fans began to speculate about division within the group when Quavo and Takeoff released the “Hotel Lobby” video earlier this summer. The duo has followed up with the “Us vs. Them” video featuring Gucci Mane while Offset collaborated with the Baby Keem on his new single, “5, 4, 3, 2, 1.” None of the three former group members or Quality Control Records have spoken openly about their apparent breakup, but Quavo and Takeoff did sit down with Brian “B Dot” Miller and Elliott Wilson Rap Radar last week.
“The chemistry is the same,” Quavo said when asked what may be different about recording without Offset.
“The chemistry has been there since day one, so we just … easily bounce off.”
Meanwhile, Offset has continued to tease the release of a solo project.
“[My] album is full of hits and full of smashes,” he told his fans.
“Y’all [are going to] see how I’m coming. I’m coming crazy in all aspects of rapping. I ain’t playing no games. I got sh*t for the girls too. I made sure I touched on some shit for the girls.”
At this time, Offset has not identified a specific release date for the solo LP.
