On November 10, a noose was discovered at the construction site of the Obama Presidential Center. In response, Lakeside Alliance, one of several construction companies working on the center, pledged to “provide any assistance required to identify those responsible.” Moreover, a $10,000 reward has been offered for any information that leads to finding those responsible.
“This shameless act of cowardice and hate is designed to get attention and divide us. Our priority is protecting the health and safety of our workforce,” the Obama Foundation stated.
The Chicago Police Department is reportedly aware of the matter and investigating the situation. Lakeside Alliance team members will also participate in anti-bias training this week.
“We are suspending all operations on site in order to provide another series of these trainings and conversations for all staff and workers,” the company stated.
“We are horrified that this would occur on our site … Lakeside Alliance remains committed to providing a work environment where everyone can feel safe, be their best self, and be treated with dignity and respect.”
The Obama Presidential Center is still reportedly set to open in 2025.
