Well, it looks like the ‘80s are making a comeback this summer in more ways than one. Tuesday, Netflix and Coca-Cola announced a new collaboration in preparation for the upcoming third season of Stranger Things 3.
‘New Coke’ is set to hit shelves this summer as part of a larger campaign centered on the nostalgia-fueled series’ new season. The beverage was originally released in 1985 to nearly universal criticism. Coca-Cola released the new formula of coke with the hope of gaining ground on its competitor, Pepsi-Cola, but the campaign is mostly remembered as a failure.
‘New Coke’ has already appeared in a number of Stranger Things episodes as Netflix is exploring sponsorship opportunities outside the traditional commercial system. Alongside their deal with Coca-Cola, Netflix has struck a deal with Baskin-Robbins to serve flavors inspired by the series. H&M will also apparently sell clothes that mirror the ones worn by characters in the series.
The new season’s plot has been kept mostly under wraps but it will center on a new threat coming to Hawkins from the Upside Down. Oh, and a new mall, so, big things are happening in Indiana.
Stranger Things 3 hits Netflix on July 4th.
