The Brooklyn Nets earlier this season were on the market and owner Mikhail Prokhorov was looking to sell the team for nearly $2 billion dollars, after lack of interest Prokhorov decided to take the franchise off the market.
According to Bleacher Report’s Ric Bucher The Nets Owner now wants 100% of the franchise now:
I’m hearing that Mikhail Prokhorov, there’s been a lot of talk about him selling the franchise. And now the latest is that in the next two weeks, we could hear an announcement that he’s actually buying 100 percent of the franchise, buying the Barclays Center, going all in. Now, sources who told me all this also said there is still the possibility that he gets completely out if he has that opportunity. But the indications are much more strong that he would go the other way and buy all the way in.
At this stage in the game I’m not sure what the plan is for Prokorhov, and the team has cut down some salaries after paying $90.57 million in taxes back in 2013.
The only thought I have is Mikhail Prokorhov might look to take full ownership and hopefully sell the team for the large sum he wanted back in January. After purchasing the team for $200 million back in 2010 he could look to possibly make a gain, but realistically has the team made him enough money in his 5 seasons as owner to call it a gain?
