Disney is getting into the streaming game, but fans of the Marvel and Lucasfilm properties who watch them on Netflix needn’t despair just yet. Variety reports that the two are in the process of negotiations for leaving these films and shows on the latter for the foreseeable future.
From the article: “Netflix remains in “active discussions” with Disney about a deal for Lucasfilm and Marvel titles after the companies’ current movie-output deal expires in 2019, chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in an interview with Reuters.”
With The Defenders and the shows leading into it (Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, soon The Punisher) proving especially popular, it was worrisome that they may have been coming to an abrupt halt. Now that that appears not to be the case, fans can breathe a sigh of relief and resume speculating about what the future holds.
We’ll keep an eye on this situation as it develops.
