Normalcy is returning to the NBA. Fans are being allowed into stands and the regular season will start again in October for the 2021-2022 campaign, according to Shams Charania from The Athletic, returning to the calendar we were all accustomed to.
Sources: Key dates for the 2021-22 NBA season:
Sept. 28: Training camp starts
Oct. 19: Regular season starts
April 16: Playoffs start
June 2: Finals Game 1
June 19: Finals Game 7
June 23: 2022 NBA Draft— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) June 10, 2021
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the league had to put on hold the 2019-2020 season and for several months no basketball was played. By June, the idea of restarting in what was called the “Orlando bubble” grew strong and was an option for the playoffs and crown a champion.
The 2020 NBA Finals, which saw LeBron James get his fourth championship, ended in mid-October. Under normal circumstances, a new season would be starting on those dates.
The current season started two months later in December and was shortened to 72 games to return to the former dates for their events. A task that has now been achieved by the league and now fans will have the feeling of normalcy for their NBA content.
