Dave East is arguably one of the winners of 2016 as he has dawned the XXL Freshman cover, released a new project/album in Kairi Chanel, blessed the Hip Hop Awards Cypher and announced the signing with Def Jam Records. That is really just the short version.
With the news of the Def Jam Records signing, the project ‘Kairi Chanel’ was more than anticipated but the reception was more than positive on several accounts. I’ll be the first to admit I quickly compared it to ‘Hate Me Now’ and that was a mistake, I didn’t give it a fair listen. Now that I have, the project has grown on me and it’s definitely a good follow up and lead up to his debut album with Def Jam. Not to mention it will be executive produced by Nas, so it is sure to be just as good if not better.
The sky is the limit for the East Side Harlem rep. As for Kairi Chanel, providing visuals for several standouts is the next step. We have already received the video for ‘Keisha’ which was a dope record with a story line that is a lost art in Hip Hop/Rap nowadays.
Looking to follow is the latest music video for ‘Type of Time’. Keeping things simple with a beautifully shot visual, Dave compliments a dope record with a video that fits.
Check out the video below and look forward to more to follow.
