ESPN has shared the third installment of their growing musical series, Music For the Movement. After calling on Freddie Gibbs, Tobe Nwigwe and Tinashe for previous releases, the Disney property called on a new slate of stars. Chloe Bailey, Common, Cordae and Lucky Daye lead this project with help from Jazz musician Kamasi Washington and actress Yara Shahidi.
Music For The Movement III celebrates the Juneteenth holiday in a unique. Fusing together new songs like “What’s Life” by Cordae and Common with covers of “Feeling High” by Nina Simone, the EP does a great job of honoring the past while celebrating the present and future.
“[Music For The Movement III] explores embracing Black authenticity uninhibitedly. It’s centered on Black America becoming the author of its own story and adopting an unapologetic Black pride. Volume III shifts its focus away from the long-suffered trauma to revel in the strengths that make the Black community unique, original and extraordinarily resilient,” a spokesperson for Hollywood Records said.
“The project is a celebration of Black art, style, beauty, creativity and success as a culture and a people.”
