Morehouse College continues to make history. The historically Black institution has become the first college to offer classes in the metaverse. Using a headset, students can use each session to explore important moments in history such as the Civil Rights Movement or Reconstruction.
“I think that people do want to know the history of us as Americans because we all have made significant contributions to this fabric of America,” Dr. Monique Earl Lewis of Morehouse College said, per BET.
“To expand the story that we’re telling, to build confidence and understandings around how we’re all connected because we have a shared history in this country.”
Dr. Muhsinah Morris will lead the academic endeavor. In this role, she will serve as the manager of the school’s VR Project and the leader of the PI Morris Research and Innovation Lab at Morehouse College.
“They can create. They can produce. They can market. They can create social events. They can create a place of belonging in the community,” Morris said about the potential opportunities for students in the program.
“The future looks a lot like young people being able to come together from countries all over the world in one singular space.”
