The Miami Heat had a challenging offseason. While they managed to bring back Hassan Whiteside, they lost franchise star Dwyane Wade.
There are many questions surrounding the Heat next season. Chief among them is the status of Chris Bosh. The power forward has missed large portions of the last two seasons due to blood clots.
There has been speculation about whether or not Bosh will be able to return to the court. He has attempted to force his way into playing again, but faces the challenge of being cleared first. Considering the danger of this particular health concern, doctors must be very cautious in allowing him to play.
However, we may know a little more about Bosh’s status moving forward. In a letter sent by Micky Arison to season ticket holders, the Heat owner hinted at a return by the big man next year (via Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel):
“What won’t change is the culture of this organization. The Miami HEAT is a Championship organization. I fully expect this team, from Pat Riley to Head Coach Erik Spoelstra, to our veterans Chris Bosh, Udonis Haslem, Goran Dragic and Josh McRoberts, to our returning young core of Hassan Whiteside, Justise Winslow, Josh Richardson and Tyler Johnson, to the fresh faces joining the HEAT Family to continue our mantra of being the ‘hardest working, best conditioned, most professional, unselfish, toughest, meanest, nastiest team in the NBA.’ “
Of course, this does not necessarily mean that Chris Bosh will be on the court on opening night. However, it does seem to imply that he will not be prematurely retiring due to the health issues. That in itself is a good sign.
