On December 2, 2023, the Michigan Wolverines beat the Iowa Hawkeyes at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis to claim the 2023 Big Ten Championship.
Michigan’s championship win was powered by a dominant defensive performance. The Wolverines held the Hawkeyes to fewer than ten first downs, fifty rushing yards and 200 total yards. Not to mention, the Hawkeyes suffered three turnovers and were unable to score through sixty minutes of football.
“Iowa’s defense is good, just not good enough to stifle Michigan. And Michigan is playing lights out defense,” Vegas Sports Today contributor Kenny King Jr. tweeted.
The Wolverines improve to 13-0 with a win against Iowa. Within twelve hours, Harbaugh and the Wolverines will turn their attention toward the television. The College Football Playoff Committee will unveil the final rankings of the 2023-2024 season on Sunday, December 3 at 12 p.m. EST on ESPN. Coming into the weekend, the Wolverines improved to second place in the penultimate rankings. Following Georgia’s first loss of the season, the Wolverines have an opportunity to improve to first in the country. Alongside Michigan, the University of Washington Huskies may look to take the number one spot after a win against the fifth ranked Oregon Ducks on Friday.
