Michael B. Jordan will star in Lionsgate adaptation of hitman story The Silver Bear. Jordan will also serve as a producer on the project. No director has signed on for the project yet.
The Silver Bear will be based on the book series of the same name by Derek Haas. Haas wrote the screenplays for Wanted and 3:10 to Yuma but Frank Baldwin will write the script for this film. The book series follows Columbus, an assassin known as the Silver Bear who tracks a major political figure during a presidential run.
Lionsgate Chairman Joe Drake released a statement alongside the announcement signaling his excitement. “The Silver Bear is the kind of story that needs to be experienced on the big screen and Michael is the perfect movie star to inhabit the skin of this dynamic character and take us into the cinematic world of Columbus. We’re incredibly honored that Michael and Nickel City chose Lionsgate to partner with in bringing this exciting property to life.”
Nickel City is the publisher of the book series and sold the rights to Lionsgate last year. Jordan’s Outlier Society Productions will produce alongside Vishal Rungta, Mark Fasano, and Ankur Rungta of Nickel City Pictures. Haas will serve as an executive producer on the film.
The Silver Bear has no release date but production is likely to move forward quickly over the next year.
