This week, Meta underwent its latest round of layoffs. The Company reportedly let go of roughly 4,000 employees in technical roles. Of these layoffs, a significant portion involved employees who worked to control the spread of misinformation across its platforms. Despite these layoffs in key areas, a spokesperson for Meta says that the company is still focused on enhancing its “industry-leading integrity efforts.”
“We remain focused on advancing our industry-leading integrity efforts and continue to invest in teams and technologies to protect our community,” Meta spokesperson Dave Arnold told Alex Heath of The Verge.
The recent round of layoffs coincided with a town hall at the company. During a question and answer portion of the event, employees questioned why they would stay at the company considering its recent workforce cuts.
“You’ve shattered the morale and confidence in leadership of many high performers who work with intensity. Why should we stay at Meta?” employees asked, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.
“There’s no other company in the world that delivers social experiences at the scale that we are and that does so across such a diversity of different products and use cases,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg answered.
“So if you want to reach people in the billions and have a massive impact, I think this is a great place to be.”
