NBC has announced that Savannah Guthrie of Today will lead a town hall in Miami, Florida on Thursday with special guest President Donald Trump. The Trump-led event will take place outdoors at the Pérez Art Museum tomorrow at 8 p.m.
Participants will be required to abide by strict COVID-19 guidelines put in place by the CDC. Guthrie and Trump will be seated 12 feet apart from themselves and the audience.
NBC’s town hall will mark the first time Trump has taken part in an extended television event since the first presidential debate with Joe Biden earlier this month. Soon thereafter, Trump and nearly three dozen top officials tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Trump was treated at Walter Reed Medical Center and doctors have said that he is no longer at risk of transmitting the disease.
Trump’s last-minute event will compete with former Vice President Joe Biden’s town hall event in Philadelphia on ABC. Biden’s event will also take place at 8 p.m., but will last 30 minutes longer.
Both events are taking place in lieu of the previously scheduled presidential debate in Miami, Florida. However, Trump declined to take part in the event moved to have a virtual debate instead in light of his positive COVID-19 test. The third and final debate is set to take place on October 22 in Nashville.
