Earlier this month, Meek Mill made a grand return to the big stage with his performance at Hot 97’s Summer Jam in New Jersey. Last night, Meek Mill followed up his Summer Jam performance with an extremely moving performance at the 2018 BET Awards in Los Angeles, California. Meek could have used his platform to perform any of the new club records we know he has stashed away, but he didn’t. The Philadelphia native used the stage to speak for a few of the underrepresented communities, he has been an advocate for over the years.
Shortly after the BET Awards concluded, MMG released Meek’s newest single. With Miguel on the hook, Meek Mill raps, “We scream, ‘Black Lives Matter,’ but we’re still toting ladders. We watch our own brothers try to get at us. Dreams get shattered when there’s a scene full of crackers. They charge you with some sh*t you didn’t do. You’re like, ‘What happened?’ We go get lawyers to say sh*t. We don’t know how to talk They told us to hate each other before we learn how to walk.” Miguel comes in on the hook and sings, “It was designed for us to fail/We still prevail through the hell/Though it was designed for us to lose/To make it through nothing’s impossible/Believe it we’re still undefeated.”
In addition to performing “Stay Woke”, Meek Mill also donned a customized hoodie to commemorate fallen musicians, Jimmy Wopo and XXXTentacion. Meek will likely be releasing a video for the single in the near future.
