Move At Your Own Risk, for me that is exactly how you should approach life as the old saying goes, “no risk, no reward”. Well for the band M.A.Y.O.R. this testament stands firm. Based out of New York City, M.A.Y.O.R. is a band composed of members hailing from not only Brooklyn and Queens but have Afro-American, Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Latino backgrounds. Diversity at it’s best and when you have such a diverse sound, it generates a diverse audience where you can allow yourself to cater to more than one specific genre or fan base.
The members of M.A.Y.O.R.; Dru M, Bike Tyson (Lead singer), Hashim (Bassist), Khuent Rose (pianist, vocalist, steel pan virtuoso) & Cory “Gypsy” Simpson (Guitarist) all were on their own paths but with having a common goal, interest and having mutual relationships with one another forming one entity was a no brainer.
Having hosted workshops and mentoring students throughout the world, the band has also made it a priority to stay the course by performing along side Tony Allen (Fela Kuti Drummer & Afrobeat Pioneer), Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, MF DOOM, Childish Gambino, Richie Spice, Corey Glover (Living Colour), T.O.K., Public Enemy, Yaasin Bey (Mos Def) and De La Soul. Now that’s no list to frown upon.
With their album ‘Animal Instincts’ on the way, the members of M.A.Y.O.R come together for a “MayorMix” which is their own rendition for a song of choice. The specific song happens to be the wildly successful Drake record, ‘Hotline Bling’. Now as you watch the video for their ‘Hotline Bling’ MayorMix, you she be taken away by the fact it’s essentially a band and if you’re all for the live band routine when it comes to popular songs, this is for you.
M.A.Y.O.R. is currently working on their debut project, Animal Instincts. This project will be released through their independent label, Level Expert Media.
