The Dallas Mavericks used point guards by committee last year after they moved on from Deron Williams and attempted to tank to improve their draft stock. Devin Harris was the main point guard option off the bench, Seth Curry saw minutes handling the ball, Yogi Ferrell came on as a nice undrafted rookie piece and when J.J. Barea was healthy, he ran pick and rolls all night. Outside of a few flashes from Curry and Ferrell, the Mavs point guard position was relatively below average by NBA standards. They could be looking to make an upgrade either in the draft or acquiring a point guard looking for a new home in Ricky Rubio.
The Mavericks recently met with French point guard Frank Ntilikina overseas during the pre-draft process and really like him if he falls to them with the ninth pick. But there are some teams before them who might go with the defensive Frenchman. What’s an alternative idea? How about making a trade for Ricky Rubio, someone who has previously voiced his displeasure with his current team.
It’s unclear what the Mavs might offer for Rubio but if they are willing to bring on the dazzling passer, you have to imagine the Timberwolves would want something of substance in return despite the Spanish point guard being in trade rumors for well over a year now.

#Mavs have had in-house talks about the trade availability of #Timberwolves PG Ricky Rubio – and about drafting PG Frank Ntilikina, too.
