The Dallas Mavericks have gone through a complete backcourt makeover already this offseason. Owner Mark Cuban is one of the most aggressive free agent pursuers in the entire association and he’s been up to his old tricks this summer. Their starting backcourt last season consisted of Rajon Rondo and Monta Ellis both of who are gone.
Rondo signed a deal with the Sacramento Kings worth nearly $10 million for one year. Meanwhile, Ellis joined forces with Paul George in Indiana to boast arguably the best wing combination in the NBA. His deal was worth $44 million over four years. Dallas recently acquired talented shooting guard Wesley Matthews to replace Monta Ellis but they still have a gaping hole at point guard.
That’s where ex-linsanity superstar Jeremy Lin enters the picture. Lin is a big name and would bring plenty of media attention to the Mavs, exactly what Cuban wants. According to Marc Stein of ESPN:
The Dallas Mavericks are firmly in the mix to sign free-agent point guard Jeremy Lin, according to league sources.
Dallas only has limited funds to offer, but sources told ESPN.com that Lin is giving the Mavericks strong consideration even though he can likely make more money elsewhere.
Lin could step into D-Town and become the facilitator right off the bat. Dallas has it’s entire starting lineup after the signing of DeAndre Jordan except for point guard. This is what makes it such a desirable landing place for Lin, a promised starting spot right away. We also have to factor that he is good friends with forward Chandler Parsons after their days together with the Houston Rockets. If Dallas was to pull the trigger this deal would be a great one for both side.
