Mary J. Blige may be a New York native, but her impact has been felt throughout the world over the last three decades. As a result, she was honored with the key to Atlantic City, New Jersey earlier this week.
“Blige is beloved by so many across the world, and her visit to Atlantic City to attend my inaugural gala is a true privilege,” Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. said about the legendary singer.
At 51 years old, Mary J. Blige is taking her victory lap around an industry that she has helped build over the last 30 years. Recently, she received the Icon Award at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards and she hosted the inaugural Strength of a Woman Summit in Atlanta, Georgia. Not to mention, she released her 14th studio album, Good Morning Gorgeous, in February with contributions from Usher, Dave East, Fivio Foreign and DJ Khaled.
Beyond her music career, Blige also plays the role of Monet Tejada on Power Book II: Ghost. The Starz hit series is set to return for a third season later this year. She’s also set to do a bit of voice acting on Netflix’s upcoming series, Lost Ollie.
