On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, Disney confirmed the December 15, 2028, release of an untitled Marvel film. Marvel has previously confirmed the release of new movies on February 18, 2028, May 5, 2028, and November 10, 2028. While unconfirmed, Black Panther III, Shang-Chi II, Fantastic Four II, and the return of the X-Men franchise are rumored for the Election Year schedule.
In comparison to the schedule set for 2026 and 2027, our films would be a significant uptick for Marvel. Currently, Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday are slated to be released in 2026. In 2027, Avengers: Secret Wars and an untitled film are on the MCU docket. Marvel has elected to scale back its releases in recent years to deliver “better quality” rather than “quantity.”
“We all know that in our zeal to flood our streaming platform with more content, that we turned to all of our creative engines, including Marvel, and had them produce a lot more,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said during an investor call. “We’ve also learned over time that quantity does not necessarily beget quality. And frankly, we’ve all admitted to ourselves that we lost a little focus by making too much. By consolidating a bit and having Marvel focus much more on their films, we believe that will result in better quality.”
It’s unclear what ignited the schedule adjustment or what it will mean for the future of the MCU. In the meantime, viewers will turn their attention to the forthcoming Fantastic Four movie, set for a July 25, 2025 release.
