The 2017-2018 NBA rookie class has some standout players that have shown they are the face of the league going forward. So far, the No. 1 pick in that draft has yet to be included on that list. Philadelphia 76ers rookie Markelle Fultz has missed essentially the entire season, with many outlets questioning his recovery status and a return date. Apparently, his return is up to him himself saying he is ready to go.
Sixers head coach Brett Brown says that Fultz’s return is at the point that if he feels he is ready to play, the team will accommodate his return accordingly.
“It’s just something that when Markelle Fultz feels like he can go, like he really feels good about himself and his health, the shoulder, everything,” Brown tells Keith Pompey of Philly.com.
This is certainly a positive sign for Philadelphia that their prized pick is at this stage of recovery. Markelle Fultz coming back from injury to possibly contribute in the playoffs would be quite the comeback. But the Sixers medical team would need to approve of his return.
“He knows he’s got a coaching staff and a team that will welcome him in when he says go,” Brown said.
Philadelphia has ten games remaining in the season. He has missed 68 games this season with shoulder and elbow ailments. His shooting mechanics have also undergone massive overhauls. The cryptic nature of Fultz’s injury has been one of the more complex stories of the season. Brown even called this situation one of the most complicated he has dealt with as a coach.
