Ohio teenager Ma’Khia Bryant will be laid to rest this Friday. Funeral services will be held at First Church of God in Columbus, Ohio. Bishop Timothy Clarke has added that the service will be open to the public.
Bryant was shot and killed by police officer Nicholas Reardon on April 20 in Columbus. Earlier that day, Bryant had called the police because she felt she was going to be assaulted by a group of older women. Responding to the call, Reardon appeared at the site of the incident. Video of the incident appears to show Bryant involved in an altercation with the women who were accused of potentially attacking her. Less than fifteen seconds after arriving on the scene, Reardon pulls out his gun and fires at Bryant. She sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died shortly thereafter.
Bryant’s death has sparked several protests across the city and the country. Reardon has been placed on administrative leave while the Ohio Bureau of Investigation examines the shooting further. No charges have been filed in the shooting as of yet.
