The Clippers purchase of The Forum comes as part of a plan for constructing an arena in the near-future separate from the Los Angeles Lakers, with both teams currently occupying the Staples Center, but the overwhelming support in the venue being that of the Lakers’.
With the Clippers acquiring superstars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George this past offseason, the move by Ballmer to establish an arena that is solely the home of the Clippers is the latest move to escape the shadow cast by the Lakers they’ve long found themselves lost in.
With the NBA season on an indefinite hiatus, the Clippers are currently the second-seeded team in the West with a record of 44-20.
