The anticipated live-action Akira movie has officially stalled, according to its director Jaume Collet-Serra.
Serra told Collider that there has been no progress on getting the film off the ground, saying “No, no. There’s nothing!”
Collet-Serra also suggested that the question of if and when the movie would progress could only be answered by Warner Bros.
Attempts to adapt Katsuhiro Otomo’s comic – which was the basis for the classic anime film of the same name – have been shelved several times over the years.
Garrett Hedlund, Ken Watanabe, Helena Bonham Carter and Kristen Stewart were previously attached to the 2012 project before it was pulled.
Plans for the Akira film were also opposed by fans demanding that Asian actors be cast in the lead roles.
