Dame D.O.L.L.A is back once again with another hot freestyle, this time it’s over a hip hop classic, Mobb Deep’s ‘Shook Ones’ Instrumental. The Portland Trail Blazers superstar and all-star spends his off days rapping and he is definitely making a name for himself, even having major record labels considering to sign him. With basketball being first priority for Lillard, rapping still hasn’t taken a back seat to it. With his 4-bar friday’s and numerous tracks dropped under the alias Dame D.O.L.L.A, he’s starting to gain quite the name for himself.
Many basketball players have tried, but could Damian Lillard be the best rapper/NBA player ever? Not until he sells platinum like Shaquille O’Neal in the 90’s but he’s a close 2nd right now and creeping up. Listen to his latest ‘Shook Ones’ freestyle Ft. V.I.P:
His most notable bars in my opinion are the ones he starts out with saying:
“Last of a dying breed and they taking me for granted,” he says, “I represent the ones working for nothing handed / The world is all backwards, how we lazy and demanding? / We ain’t working towards dreams, we just working towards mansions.”
He then continues to reflect on his own life, talking about how money can be the root of all evil, even in the NBA:
“And the money is the root of all evil/ how easy they deceive you/ lately I’ve been feeling bad for my people/ cuz our act game cold and real life slacking/ it’s raining outside and we ain’t even wearing jackets”
He’s alluding to the life of an NBA player, and how most people just chase dreams in hopes for materialistic goals, but not Dame D.O.L.L.A, he wants the glory.
