Another horror franchise is coming back to life. Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Lebron James’ SpringHill Entertainment is in talks to acquire the rights to a new Friday the 13th installment. Roy Lee is also looking to produce the film through Vertigo Entertainment.
The news is no surprise considering Halloween‘s success over the weekend. The horror reboot took in $77.5 million over the weekend, breaking both franchise and box office records in the process.
Friday the 13th will feature Jason Voorhees as he terrorizes a new group of victims on his favorite day of the year. As the film is still extremely early in development, no script or director is attached to the project yet. Warner Bros. is expected to land distribution rights after also handling the most recent Friday the 13th movie in 2009.
SpringHill Entertainment has been making a splash recently. Last month, the production company announced that it was developing a Space Jam sequel with James starring. The production company also produces all of James’ projects such as his upcoming NBC series Hoops.
No further information regarding the potential Friday the 13th reboot has been announced.
