Lamar Odom opened up with Us Weekly about his drug use – specifically, cocaine. Coke was Odom’s “drug of choice,” but certainly not his only vice. Odom says that his cocaine usage helped precipitate the end of his NBA career:
I was in a very dark place and very confrontational. I wasn’t trying to repair my marriage; I was just trying to get high. My life was all about drugs at that point. It probably helped the end of my career come along a little faster because drugs killed my drive to want to train and be in shape.
The tragedy of Lamar Odom is well-documented. During and after an illustrious NBA career, Odom struggled to keep his drug habits in check. His drug use culminated in disaster; Odom was found unconscious in a Las Vegas brothel with a variety of drugs in his system. Through brain scans, doctors concluded that Odom suffered 12 strokes. Odom was in a coma for approximately 72 hours before awakening.
Odom’s story appears to be heading towards an uplifting end – or at least more uplifting than its climax. Odom went to rehab and completed the 35-day program. Now he’s sober. Odom described being off drugs as “a great feeling.”
