Los Angeles Lakers 2015-16 campaign is a big farewell to Kobe Bryant and the organization has made that known on more than one occasion. Kobe announced long ago that this season would be his last in LA with the Lakers and it means the future of the Lakers rests in the hands of D’Angelo Russell, Julius Randle, Jordan Clarkson and whatever potential star they want to spend over $20 million dollars on this summer.
One person who might see his tenure come to an end this season is Byron Scott. The heavily criticized head coach will not get a farewell tour or a swan song like Bryant is this season but instead, he might just get the boot before his contract ends.
Following from Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times.
The franchise seems torn on whether he’ll return for the third and last guaranteed year on his contract.
He is expected to coach the rest of this season, and some within the organization wonder what Scott might do with a better roster. The one he has now has produced an 11-44 record, second-worst in the NBA.
Others, however, wonder about the effectiveness of the tough love he administers to the team’s many young players.
Byron has not connected with his young players on more than one occasion and the fact that he still has a job might just be a favor the organization is doing for Kobe Bryant. Scott was a player Kobe looked up to when he entered the league 20 years ago and now that his career is ending, Scott is the coach of Kobe’s final unsuccessful squad. It’s an odd way to come full circle in both of their careers.
